We (and by we, it’s really just Daren) decided to try out Telus’s new Optik TV and Internet. With their $15/month promotion, how could I say no?

Of course, this is Telus we’re talking about, known throughout BC colloquially as the Devil. Poor on customer service, and keen on contracts, they’re no one’s best friend. But I thought it would be worth a shot, especially considering Shaw’s not a whole lot better. Plus, Shaw’s technology hasn’t really changed in more than 5 years, whereas Optik TV can actually use an Xbox 360 as a set-top box.

The only concern is service availability. Some friends of mine said they experienced outtages, which would be a deal-breaker for me. And so far, the TV and internet have both been disrupted off and on for the last 3 days (to be fair, the TV is routed through the broadband modem, so the two are definitely related, but that’s not much of an excuse). I tried calling their tech support, and spent about half an hour on hold. Not a good sign.

We’ll see if things improve over the next week.
